My name is Michael Lear. I'm an aspiring motoring journalist with a passion for cars, motorsport and writing. I have produced a range of news, features, reviews and comment articles as part of my master's degree in Automotive Journalism, a selection of which you can see here. One of the highlights is my new website, The Skoda Estelle Story (www.theskodaestellestory.com). Creating it led to one of my best experiences on the course, interviewing former Skoda works rally driver John Haugland about driving the Estelle rally cars for two articles on the site.

For this opinion article about F1's plans to host a race in Saudi Arabia, I challenged myself to write for a wider audience. I spent time researching the subject in depth and refining the article to make it suitable for an online publication.

All this has helped me to build on my previous experience, which includes writing for my blog (www.petrolhead.blog) and doing work experience at my local newspaper. In 2016, I was the proud recipient of the Midland Group of Motoring Writers Phil Llewellin Award (senior section) for a story entitled 'The perfect car for the perfect road.'
