Morphing truck structure in the aero configuration. (Trailer without the side walls)

I'm Santiago Celeghin from Venice, Italy. For my final major project I am studying the possibility to design a truck that can change shape, adapting and optimising to different aerodinamic situations. I analysed a platooning situation as well as a solo situation, due to the high advantages this innovation will give to the industry. Trucks travel for longer distances and with a more constant average speed which has an impact on the drag reduction that can be achieved and on fuel/energy savings. I’m designing the truck for 2050, where autonomous trucks will be completely driverless on highways and cars will also run fully autonomous. I’ll specifically be looking into the best and most aerodynamic shape for trucks to run in convoys and the best, aerodynamic shape for solo trucks. Also, I will design a trailer that can optimise it’s shape depending on the load amount and shape it's carrying.

Platoon, first truck in the aero position with the trailer's roof up, second truck in the box configuration with the trailer in the aero configuration
Section of the truck in the aero position, the lower part of the truck and trailer received the same attention as the rest in order to optimize the aerodynamic
Render with the trailer's walls removed in order to show how it can adapt to the load and optimize it's aerodynamic performance.

Truck's front
Truck's rear, the tyres are made with two different kinds of rubber in order to maximize grip on corners and to reduce resistance on straights.
