LINEAR LANDSCAPE : A welcoming space for Coventry University. The objective is to provide a sense of space by creating a vertical linear spine of landscape, finding the horizontal floating pieces of landscape around the site and weaving them together through the concept of linearity. This would derive from the concept of “pools” from the swimming pools of sports and leisure centres, spreading it around the site. Creating a “landscape of pools” will provide a seamless flow throughout the site, thereby activating it. A contextual study of history found that the river Sherbourne used to run through the city but it is now culverted. Therefore, introducing a water channel through the site with the same concept of linearity, with an architectural intervention should give continuous identity with every part of landscape throughout the site.
